Associate Director - M&A Tax

This role can be based in a number of locations - Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds (amongst others). 

About the role

The successful individual will join a tax practice known for encouraging fresh thinking and promoting flexibility and collaboration. The team is proactive in responding to market change and is committed to shaping the future of tax advisory services. The transactions tax team supports owner‑managed businesses, private equity–backed organisations and international groups. Their work spans both compliance and advisory projects, including:

 
  • Buy‑side and sell‑side tax due diligence
  • Advising on private equity structures
  • Management tax planning
  • The position also involves close collaboration with corporate finance teams and the use of a broad international network.

Key responsibilities
 
  • Provide pre/post‑transaction tax structuring advice to achieve efficient outcomes for clients.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of M&A tax engagements and produce detailed, high‑quality technical analyses and client reports.
  • Support business development initiatives, particularly within the private equity market, alongside senior leadership.
  • Lead, coach and support team members through training, feedback and career development.
  • Prepare proposals and actively participate in pitches to prospective clients.

Your profile

Our client is seeking an individual who thrives on variety and building relationships with the ideal individual will need:

 
  • CTA qualification (or equivalent), with an accounting qualification a distinct advantage..
  • Significant experience operating in a management role.
  • Strong technical expertise in transactions tax.
  • Proven experience in client management, project delivery and relationship building.
  • An interest in business development and contributing to wider growth initiatives.
  • A collaborative, inclusive leadership style with a commitment to supporting and developing others.
