The Organisation - this is a Lead role in the Manchester office with a firm with a strong reputation in tax consultancy and serving a diverse range of clients across industries.   • Provide expert leadership for VAT and indirect tax advisory services across regional client accounts.
  • Manage and develop a talented VAT team, ensuring continuous technical proficiency and career growth.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic client relationships, ensuring high-quality, compliant VAT advice.
  • Drive business growth through new client acquisition and expanding service offerings.

  • Ensure VAT and customs compliance, audit readiness, and process improvements aligned with HMRC standards.


The role

As VAT Director in Manchester, you will oversee the firm’s regional VAT practice, providing strategic oversight and expert guidance.   • Lead and deliver innovative VAT and customs solutions in line with UK VAT regulations and international trade laws.
  • Develop long-term client relationships, delivering value through advisory and compliance expertise.
  • Mentor and lead the VAT team, fostering technical excellence and professional development.
  • Support cross-department collaboration to enhance service delivery and revenue growth.
  • Keep abreast of legislative updates, ensuring the firm’s VAT strategies are current and compliant.
  • Lead or support VAT audits, investigations, and implementations of cutting-edge VAT technology.


The ideal candidate

You are a VAT expert with a proven track record of leadership and technical excellence, wanting to impact a growing practice.

  • Minimum 8 years of VAT/indirect tax experience within professional services or similar environment.
  • CTA qualification or equivalent VAT/indirect tax expertise.
  • Deep knowledge of UK VAT regulations, HMRC guidelines, and international VAT laws.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and lead a team effectively.
  • Strong communication skills; able to convey complex VAT concepts clearly.
  • Experience advising across sectors, including international trade.
