Non- Executive Director

Blackwood is an award winning not-for-profit organisation that is developing new standards in the housing sector. Through innovation and investing in its employees, Blackwood is transforming the lives of its customers by helping them live life to the full.

The charity offers high quality care by providing bespoke housing, care at home services and care homes tailored for each individual customer, addressing a range of disabilities and specialist needs.

Ensuring the organisation continues to evolve, Blackwood is looking to add further expertise to its reputable Board by appointing a Non-Executive Director with strong finance and investment background.

The Non-Executive Director will appropriately challenge the strategic direction and operational running of the charity, whilst maximising funding and overseeing the financial planning process. Delegating responsibility for the day to day management and running of the organisation to staff through the Chief Executive, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Team to:

 

  • Set our strategy & direction
  • Agree the annual budget and business plan and ensure financial viability
  • Take account of customers’ views in respect of rents and charges, services and care provision
  • Take responsibility for ensuring Blackwood is a good employer that engages with its employees
  • Monitor performance and manage strategic risk
  • Ensure legal, constitutional and regulatory compliance
  • Promote and demonstrate good governance

Applications are invited from individuals with a strong track record of funding and investment within a regulatory environment. You will have previous Board level experience and will havean innovative and forward thinking approach. Exposure to driving high performance within a tight margin environment is also desired.

Non-Executive Directors are appointed for a period of 3 years with the possibility of a further 2 year extension. Most of Board and Committee Meetings are held on a Tuesday evening in Edinburgh. Members are asked to attend the following meetings each year:

  • 6 Board meetings and Annual General Meeting
  • Participation in either Audit & Performance or Services Committee (both of which meet Quarterly)
  • 2 Annual Strategy Discussions
