Move On – Honorary Treasurer

Move On, a Scottish Charity,  established in 1997, has a vision of a Scotland where every person can confidently navigate through the ups and downs of life and achieve their potential.  Move On has four bases in Edinburgh and Glasgow, a staff team of 40, 150 volunteers and a  turnover of £1.7 million.

Honorary Treasurer Opportunity.

The Honorary Treasurer role is a key position within the Move On Board. The board is non-executive in its role, in that it is not involved in direct service delivery, rather it is there to review, guide, advise establish strategy and oversee, ensuring that the staff team is performing well.  Board members are volunteers and come with different skills, experience and expertise.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Board Director:

  • To contribute to setting the vision and overall strategic direction
  • To ensure that Move On services meet the changing needs of service users and are delivered in a manner consistent with best practice and at all times safeguard participants
  • To ensure good financial planning and monitoring (agreeing the income generation strategy and budgets and ensuring that income and expenditure levels are regularly compared)
  • To manage and protect the assets, reputation and resources of Move On
  • To oversee the development and delivery of Move On’s business plan
  • To ensure that Move On adheres to its own values
  • To advocate on Move On’s behalf using a wide range of networks and  represent Move On at events.

The Honorary Treasurer will be responsible for:

  • Advising the board regarding the financial affairs of Move On and whether they are legal, constitutional and conducted within accepted accounting practice
  • Advising the board regarding whether proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place
  • Making fellow board members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them
  • Liaising with relevant staff and advise the board on a regular basis regarding the financial health/position of Move On and future financial viability
