Gareth Spowart

Next up in our ‘Meet the Team’ series is Gareth Spowart. Gareth has worked at iMultiply since 2016, specialising in the Qualified Accountancy Practice market in the East of Scotland and North England. With a proven track record of filling roles by thinking outside of the box, Gareth has the highest customer satisfaction feedback score in iMultiply. He is a key player in the iMultiply team with a strong moral compass, and it was only right we asked him a few questions about his role and the advice he would offer candidates.

Tell us about your role in iMultiply?

I am a Manager within our Public Practice team, joining in 2016. I work with Accountancy Firms to recruit Qualified professionals across Audit, Advisory, Business Services and Tax.

What 3 things do you enjoy most about what you do?

  • Autonomy. The power to plan my own day and change things up to keep it varied and fresh. There are many ways to approach recruitment, and being able to tailor and adapt your style is something that’s really key.
  • Making a real difference to someone. Whether it be boosting their confidence before an interview or encouraging them to apply for a role, knowing you have positively impacted someone’s career and, ultimately, life is really satisfying.
  • This might sound very cliched, but the sheer unpredictability and variety of a day in recruitment means there is never a dull moment. Everyone has their story to tell, and getting to know what makes people tick is really interesting.

Tell us about your proudest professional achievement.

My recent promotion to Manager, becoming part of the business’ leadership team. Lockdown was a real test of character for all of us, so being rewarded and recognised for my efforts in this period was very satisfying.

What advice would you give to people looking for a new role?

When it comes to interviews, ask lots of questions. Good questions generate conversation, and this allows you to build a better picture of a company and individual.
Think about what you enjoy and what you don’t enjoy. What are your priorities? What is your end goal? Finally, think about the type of experience you need to build up to reach that end goal. Sometimes the journey to your destination can have 3 or 4 different stops.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Most of my hobbies revolve around sport, whether it be five aside football, golf or running. I enjoy watching football, both live and on TV. During lockdown, I enjoyed walking and exploring different parts of Scotland, taking a photo or two along the way.

We are a values-led organisation with customer experience at the heart of everything we do. Which of our values resonates most with you and why?

I would say they are all equally important.

Integrity – people will make mistakes, but as long as you are honest and transparent in your actions, you won’t do too badly.
Innovation – everyone needs to refine and fine-tune what they do; otherwise, things become stale and outdated.
Inclusion – this is such a hot topic just now, but it’s important you treat everyone with respect regardless of who they are.
